Leadership Reallocation

Dear friends,

We are a small diocese in terms of both the number of worshipping communities and the average size of our congregations. More than 75% of our congregations are Family Size churches with Average Sunday Attendance of less than 75.

While we may be a small diocese by these measures, we are blessed with some incredibly talented clergy, and collectively we now have greater clarity about what it takes to grow and develop congregations spiritually, numerically and in missional leadership.

Missionpalooza offers an opportunity for any youth to get involved in service projects in the City of Rochester.  Under the direction of Christ Church Pittsford's Associate Rector Dr. Ronald Young, twenty-five kids in grades 6-12 spent time at different organizations, all with a different focus on addressing specific needs in the city.  Projects included working the St. Mark's and St. John E.D.E.N. gardens, packaging food at Foodlink, working on bicycles at Dream Bikes, cleaning up land at a site for a proposed Tiny House Community with Reach Advocacy, and touring Owen's House.

Faith in Action: Supporting immigrants: A video from The Episcopal Church

The Episcopal Church continues to respond to the complex array of challenges facing immigrants across the United States, including support for children and other people seeking asylum at the U.S. southern border, assisting immigrants who are undocumented, advocating for comprehensive immigration reform, and resettling refugees through Episcopal Migration Ministries.

Labor Day Parade Celebrating Farmworkers

FRIENDS:  On Monday, September 2, you're invited to the tenth Rochester Labor Day Parade march to celebrate farmworkers and passage of the Farmworker Fair Labor Practices Act.  The Bill was signed into law in July by Governor Cuomo. Parade starts at 11 a.m. sharp.

Malcolm J. Merriweather, Baritone is currently an Assistant Professor and Director of the Choral Studies and Voice Department at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York. Nathaniel Gumbs, who did graduate studies at Eastman, is the Director of Chapel Music at Yale University.

Mayor Lovely Warren visits students at St. Marks/St. Johns

Rochester's Mayor Lovely Warren, along with the Department of Environmental Services Commissioner Norman H. Jones stopped by St. Mark's / St. John's (SMSJ) today to speak with students participating in the city's Summer of Opportunity Program (SOOP).  SOOP is an employment and training program for youth ages 14-20 and who are still in middle/high school.  The program is designed to provide training and employment opportunities to youth while making a direct connection to success in school.
