Remembering Saints and Loved Ones
Today, November 1 is All Saints Day and we remember all those who have inspired us by living faithful lives, challenging and changing the world to be closer to God's vision. On All Souls Day, November 2, we remember all our loved ones who have gone before us, we grieve our loss, remember and honor their memories, and celebrate the gifts they have given us. Below are prayers and events to mark these sacred days, the "thin place" of Celtic spirituality.
- All Saints Day Eucharist and the Faure Requiem will be celebrated on Friday, November 1 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church: 25 Westminster Rd, Rochester, NY 14607.
- Attend local Day of the Dead celebrations (October 31 - November 2). Set up your own altar at home.
- Attend your local Episcopal Church on Sunday, November 3 when many congregations celebrate All Saints and All Souls, often including a reading and remembering the name of loved ones.
Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord: Give us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those ineffable joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.
O God, the Maker and Redeemer of all believers: Grant to the faithful departed the unsearchable benefits of the passion of your Son; that on the day of his appearing, they may be manifested as your children; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and ever. Amen
