Register - 2020 Children’s Interfaith Weekend

I hope you are well.  I’m writing to let you know that the 2020 Children’s Interfaith Weekend is scheduled for October 16-18, and it will include some familiar components as well as some new.  It will have the same purpose as always – to pray for children as they face tremendous challenges and to take action on their behalf.

·        Register your congregation here.

·        I have attached a flyer you can post or share with friends or colleagues who want to learn more about the Weekend.

·        COMING SOON:  The advocacy letter, fact sheet and directions for the collection of school supplies and food. 

·        The Children’s Defense Fund resources for the Children’s Sabbath weekend are here.  I have attached several 2020 CDF  resources and more will be available soon.  The attached “Multifaith” guide has prayers and activities that are appropriate for a variety of faith traditions. 

·        The attached “Action Guide” has a brief video featuring children speaking about why it’s important to vote this year:  Show the 3-minute video made by Freedom School scholars this summer giving voice to why they hope adults will vote. It could be shown during the coffee hour or for congregations that are gathering in person, streamed before, during, or after a virtual service, and posted on your place of worship’s website. 

NOTE: Because many congregations are not gathering in-person, our advocacy letter will be in online format only.  You will receive a link to the letter that can beincluded in printed or electronic bulletins and newsletters or shared via email. 

The topic of our advocacy letter will be a follow-up to last year’s activities, in support of better access to services for young children with developmental delays and disabilities.  Children with special needs will benefit from our advocacy more than ever, since COVID-19 has made it even harder for parents and therapists to meet their needs.  The letter will be directed to Governor Cuomo so it can be signed by anyone in New York State.

COLLECTION: We will also have several options for collecting needed items for children in Monroe County.  We invite you to gather donations of children’s winter coats, mittens, hats and boots, school supplies, and nonperishable food.  We will pick up the donations from you and deliver them to Memorial AME Zion Church, Barakah Muslim Charity, and Pencils and Paper (a program of Jewish Family Services).  More details on that will be sent soon.
