Following early hearings, Day Three began with TEConversations—Conversations for the Episcopal Church, revolving around “Racial Reconciliation.” Arno Michaelis gave the first of the talks, speaking of his conversion from a life as a “Neo-Nazi Skinned Head.” “No one,” said Michaelis, “ever beat the Nazi out of me; they loved the Nazi out of me.” With these words we were encouraged to reflect on how violence and hate cannot end violence and hate. ROC Episcopal General Convention / Day TwoFriday, July 6, 2018“How do you follow in the way of love in a world that is unloving?” With this question Presiding Bishop, Michael Curry, began his homily for the 79th General Convention of the Episcopal Church’s Opening Eucharist. The jumping off point of his homily was John 15, where Jesus speaks of himself as the vine, and we the branches. ROC Episcopal General Convention 2018Friday, July 6, 2018The General Convention began this week, and is the governing body of The Episcopal Church that meets every three years. It is a bicameral legislature that includes the House of Deputies and the House of Bishops, composed of deputies and bishops from each diocese. Jazz VespersFriday, June 29, 2018Each Jazz Vespers service lasts approximately 45 minutes and includes prayer, a contemporary reflection on the theme, and jazz, with light refreshments following the performance.
