From Rector Father Abi John: “Kudos to the Church of the Ascension family for our continuing commitment to the spirit of the 79th General Convention of The Episcopal Church, which commended the Dioceses of New York and Rochester for “taking the lead in addressing the human rights violation of discrimination associated with caste and descent.”
Our Ascension community has sought to move beyond borders through genuine global mission partnership with the Dalit community in Chennai, India, by the grace of God, and with the blessings of our Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Kara Wagner Sherer, we were able to raise $3,500 for the Bed Project, supporting Dalit hostel children by providing proper beds and rest so they may have greater dignity, well-being, and access to education.
On July 30, 2026, our Vestry presented a ceremonial check to the Bishop in Madras and his wife, the Rev. Indira Paul, as a visible sign of our solidarity with Dalit children and our commitment to human dignity and justice. Small attempts can make big changes!
We continue to pray for all who are in need and recommit ourselves to building a world where every human being is treated with dignity and respect.
“Educate! Unite! Transform!” These words keep us moving forward as we imagine and build the Beloved Community. Thanks be to God for everyone who made this ministry possible. Amen.”
