The Diocese of Rochester is made up of eight counties, and one Episcopalian for each of our 6,371.1 square miles between Lake Ontario and the Pennsylvania border. We are 48 worshipping communities including four chapels and three chaplaincies. We are a presence in urban, suburban and rural areas and no place is far from beautiful bodies of water and parks for rest, relaxation, and play. We have excellent academic, medical, and cultural institutions, a reasonable cost of living, and our four seasons cushion us from climate change. Toronto, New York, Philadelphia, Montreal, Pittsburgh and Cleveland are within 4-5 hour car rides.
This is a great place to be a clergy person! We have 49 active clergy, of which 40% are women, and 65 retired clergy, of which 43% are women. Our benefit package includes salary, pension, 80% coverage of health insurance, and 100% coverage of SECA and FICA. Though we have few rectories we do have a clergy housing loan plan for up to $100,000 with a below-market interest rate.

Grace Church, a family-size parish located in the historic village of Scottsville, seeks a half-time Rector whose skills include spiritual and administrative leadership; gifts as a teacher and promoter of spiritual growth; partnering with lay leaders for outreach and connection, including Grace’s Table, their longstanding and successful food ministry; fostering growth in reconciling conflict amidst times of divisive societal issues.

Job Description
St. Paul’s is seeking a Rector with excellent communication, preaching and pastoral care skills
who will effectively engage the congregation in effort to reach out to younger people and the
surrounding community, while simultaneously valuing the traditions important to long-term
members. Our new Rector will value our music program and our inspiring worship facilities, and
support what our members hold dear while serving and inspiring younger families to be active
members.
We seek an energetic leader with the capacity to cast a vision and lead the church in the
realization of that vision, and with spiritual strength, creativity, sense of direction, and ambition
to lead us in exploring solutions and ways to meet divergent goals that enables St. Paul’s to
grow in God’s service. This is achievable with the strong support from the congregation,
adequate resources, and divine providence.
Our next Rector will be the spiritual leader of an inclusive congregation in an urban-suburban
church with a long, distinguished history. St. Paul’s is located in a neighborhood with impressive
historic homes, churches of several denominations, and structures built in an earlier era. Its
cathedral-style architecture houses worship services that incorporate superb choral music
enhanced by an historic E.M. Skinner organ.
St. Paul’s is blessed with a substantial, well-managed endowment. Its expansive outreach
program is one of the largest in our diocese and involves many of our parishioners.
Interim (Part-time)
Fondly referred to as Two Saints, the Episcopal Church of St. Luke and St. Simon Cyrene was organized as St. Luke’s, Genesee Falls in 1817. The parish merged with St. Simon Cyrene in January of 1988. Our church is located at the intersection of South Fitzhugh and West Broad Streets, just west of the Genesee River.
We are a diverse parish of black and white members, welcoming to all, and our worship is usually referred to as “broad”, a mixture of both high and low worship. Our Sunday Eucharist is at 10 am, followed by a coffee hour at the rear of the Sanctuary.
Approximately 60 % of the congregation live in the suburbs surrounding the City of Rochester, with the rest, residents of the city. A few members live even further out. Average worship attendance is around 40 with another 15 to 25 watching on our Youtube channel.
Our strengths are in our diversity of people, working well together, and everyone displays an open welcome to visitors. Our vestry is a very cohesive group with members picking up different tasks as needed. We are also a giving parish- our pledging is in the top five of the diocese, and members are generous in their giving for special projects and needs.
Our challenge is that we are a small parish, around 85 members in good standing, and being a downtown parish, not always attractive to church seekers. Our location, once in the heart of the legal and government community, is now surrounded by apartments in converted older buildings. This puts us in a residential community, with the challenge to become known to these apartment dwellers and attract seekers to our community and its ministries.
