The Church of the Ascension joyfully hosted our Fourth International Women’s Day Celebration, bringing together women from diverse faith traditions, Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Quaker, and Christian communities. In a world marked by uncertainty and division, this gathering affirmed the beauty of pluralism as part of God’s design. Under this year’s theme, “More Than Conquerors” (Romans 8:37), participants reflected on resilience, dignity, and the courage of women who challenge systems of injustice and domination.

We were honored to have The Rev. Georgia Carney, Founder of SewGreen Rochester, as the keynote speaker, who inspired participants through her reflections and interactive facilitation. Four women, Leslie, Carmen, Safira, and Jeny, shared powerful personal stories. The day was enriched with creative activities, cultural expressions, and shared meals celebrating diversity.

We give thanks for the collaborative leadership of Angeline, Debbie Copenhagen, Kate Begy, Nancy Welcher, and the members of Ascension International Women’s Fellowship, and the many volunteers who made this event possible. We register our gratitude to our Bishop Kara for her encouragement and Mr. Steve Richards for his photography. Rev. Andrea’s and Rev. Greg’s presence added more meaning to the event. Vestry and wardens deserve our appreciation for their unwavering support of the International Women’s Fellowship. I thank all the sponsors and donors for the event.

Together, we continue building a beloved community rooted in love, dignity, and justice for all.

Faithfully,
Fr. Abi John
